I have been showing my authors how to set up their blogs so they can build a following before their book is released. It’s important to establish a relationship with your followers and create a buzz about your book. One of the most difficult tasks for my authors is having to figure out something to write about each week. Once they’ve set up the RSS feeds and Twitter feeds, it only takes a single post each week to create a highly ranked blog. (More on the techniques at Blogify)

So what I suggest is using their chapter titles to inspire a topic discussion. Typically the title will generate a new response from what was written in the book. It is a great technique.

Another engaging technique is to take examples from experiences while speaking. I always have great stories from each time I speak. Last week while I was speaking in Pleasant Hill I had an amazing woman approach me and offer to help me do the fund raising for my school for the kids at risk. There were three women there who have survived breast cancer. There was a brand new author there who was trying to figure out how to promote her book and at least a half a dozen other stories I can use in writing posts in my various blogs.

Everyday life provides interesting interactions for you to write about. Just keep a notebook handy and become observant. There’s a story there somewhere.

I am speaking at the Menlo Park Silicon Valley Pad on Wednesday about the techniques that I’ve learned during the past few months.

Authors struggle occasionally with the business of being an author. Most artists in fact struggle with the strategies of business. I break the techniques down to simple processes that can be accomplished within a few hours a month so that authors are able to concentrate on the area they are most passionate about, writing.

Blogging is one of the most helpful methods of getting your name out into the world. No matter how great your writing is, if no one reads it, it hasn’t made an impression. And most authors write to make an impression or inspire others in some manner or other.

Take the time to create a blog and learn to use the tools to generate more visibility for your writing and your books.

You can download the DVD movie at my blog site http://blogifyyourbusinessnow.com/?page_id=9 and if you’re available on Wednesday, come out and get the information first hand.

It is important to blog about your book when you first begin to write about your book in your blog when you first start writing you book outline.

You want to start attracting an audience. Those who will follow your story. You can write about the process of writing. Your emotional challenges. The struggles you might face in knowing which direction to go with your writing.

You have a chance to reveal your personality on your blog and build up a bit of anticipation for the release of your book. This is a great opportunity for you to engage your new fans.

The will want to know about why you are writing the book, how much time you spend writing, where you get your inspiration and what made you decide to write you book on your particular topic.

There are no rules about the frequency you should write, I typically write once a week or every two weeks, it depends on the blog.

But get the blog started and start building your following.

I decided to convert another of my 41 websites to a blog last week. You won’t believe what I discovered. This is one of the few places that I have not revealed what a fanatic I am about tracking my efforts. I totally believe in quantifying my efforts. If it doesn’t ink, I won’t do it. If it doesn’t show a return, I stop it!

I converted my website that has been up for more than 3 years and in one week it was ranked at 5 million, three weeks previously it was ranked 30 million. That’s in the top 5% of all websites in the world. True enough I added video, and an RSS feed which adds similar content to your blog every time the top is mentioned. It raises your rankings rapidly because of the frequency.

I still have to add my Twitter Feed which will also raise the rankings. But as an author of many interests, I now have 11 blogs and only 4 of them are websites.

I believe I will now covert several of my other websites to blogs.
